New keys produced, cut and paired to the vehicle wherever it happens to be parked — driveway, works car park or roadside.
Two separate jobs sit behind every modern car key. The mechanical side is the blade, which has to match the lock pattern held against the vehicle. The electronic side is the chip and, on most cars built since the late nineties, the immobiliser will refuse to let the engine run until that chip has been introduced to the car properly. Both parts are handled on site.
Older vehicles around the town often need nothing more than a cut blade with a transponder inside. Something newer sitting on a driveway in Whiteley is far more likely to want a proximity key that never leaves the driver's pocket. The registration tells us which of those we are dealing with before anyone sets off.
Blades are cut from the vehicle's own key code or by decoding a lock where the code is not available. Programming then runs through the diagnostic socket, which is why the work happens at the car rather than at a bench somewhere else. Every key is tried on the doors, boot and ignition before we leave, including the remote buttons.
The distinction matters more than most people expect. A spare key arranged while a working one exists is generally the simpler job. A true replacement, where nothing is left to work from, may involve reading key data from the vehicle and clearing the old keys out of its memory — see lost car keys for how that is approached.
Requirements differ between models and even between build years of the same car, so nothing is confirmed until those details are checked.
Replacement keys are supplied across the town and out through Catisfield, Wallington and Funtley, with regular work down towards Titchfield Common and along the coast road at Hill Head. Portchester and Wickham are covered from the same round.
Job photographs and details are added here only after the work has been carried out, so this section stays accurate rather than decorative.
